Senior Human Resources Recruiter
People & HR · Full-time
Somerville, MA, USA
Tandem Vet · Cambridge, MA · Full-time · On-site with regular clinic rotations
Tandem is building a more accessible, connected model of veterinary care across telehealth, mobile clinics, a full-service hospital, an in-house pharmacy, and technology that brings the experience together. We are approximately 50 people today and expect to grow by roughly another 50 over the next 12 months as we expand across Greater Boston.
We are looking for a Senior Recruiter to help us build the team that carries this work forward.
This is a hands-on recruiting role for someone who enjoys finding exceptional candidates, building relationships, running a disciplined process, and closing hard-to-fill roles. Clinical hiring is the immediate priority, including veterinarians, veterinary technicians, medical leadership, and a Tufts new-graduate pipeline. Operations and technical hiring will follow.
The roleYou will own recruiting for a defined group of roles from intake through accepted offer. You will work directly with hiring managers, the CEO, and the broader leadership team to understand what Tandem needs, build strong pipelines, and deliver a candidate experience that reflects our standards.
This role is best suited to a senior individual contributor or recruiter-manager who still wants to recruit directly. You will not be managing the entire people function. Your focus will be talent acquisition, candidate quality, hiring-manager partnership, process discipline, and closing.
What you’ll do• Own full-cycle recruiting for clinical, operations, and selected technical roles.
• Build and manage pipelines for veterinarians, veterinary technicians, medical leadership, and clinic operations.
• Lead sourcing strategy across LinkedIn, referrals, professional networks, veterinary schools, conferences, and other relevant channels.
•Conduct thoughtful recruiter screens and help hiring teams assess candidates consistently.
•Partner with hiring managers to clarify role requirements, define interview plans, and maintain an appropriately high hiring bar.
•Coordinate interviews and keep candidates and interviewers informed throughout the process.
•Manage candidate communication, references, offer processes, and closing conversations.
•Represent Tandem accurately and compellingly to candidates who may be comparing traditional practices, hospitals, corporate veterinary groups, and other care models.
•Build relationships with veterinary schools and help develop the Tufts new-graduate pipeline.
•Support hiring for Tandem’s Boston veterinarian plan, including a Medical Director and senior general-practice veterinarians.
•Maintain accurate pipeline, interview, and requisition data in the recruiting systems.
•Track recruiting performance, identify bottlenecks, and recommend practical process improvements.
•Follow up proactively on interview feedback, approvals, references, and offers so searches keep moving.
•Help improve recruiting materials, interview guides, outreach messaging, and candidate experience.
•Partner with the team as new clinics and mobile operations require additional staffing.
What success looks like•Priority clinical and operations roles have healthy, actively managed pipelines.
•Hiring managers understand the process, receive useful recruiting partnership, and make decisions on time.
•Candidates experience clear communication, thoughtful interviews, and a well-run process.
•Tandem hires strong people without lowering standards to fill seats quickly.
•Qualified candidates move efficiently from first conversation to accepted offer.
•The recruiting team has reliable data on pipeline health, time to fill, offer acceptance, source effectiveness, and quality of hire.
•Tandem’s clinical hiring needs are supported by durable relationships with clinicians, veterinary schools, and professional communities.
Who you areYou are a recruiter first. You have strong sourcing instincts, sound candidate judgment, excellent follow-through, and the communication skills to build trust with candidates and hiring leaders.
You may be a strong fit if you:
•Have approximately 5+ years of recruiting or talent-acquisition experience, including meaningful full-cycle recruiting ownership.
•Have personally recruited for difficult, high-bar, specialized, or regulated roles.
•Have direct experience hiring veterinarians, veterinary technicians, nurses, allied-health professionals, engineers, or another licensed or highly specialized workforce. Veterinary experience is welcome but not required.
•Can show that you have built pipelines rather than relying only on inbound applicants or agencies.
•Are comfortable sourcing candidates directly and writing personalized outreach.
•Know how to evaluate both technical qualifications and the behaviors that predict success on a team.
•Can tell a clear story about a difficult search you filled and how you closed the candidate.
•Have partnered with founders, executives, and busy hiring managers without losing ownership of the process.
•Are organized enough to manage multiple searches, deadlines, interviews, and follow-ups at once.
•Use recruiting data to diagnose problems and decide what to change.
•Treat candidates with respect, communicate promptly, and handle confidential information professionally.
•Are comfortable using modern recruiting systems and AI-assisted tools while keeping human judgment at the center of the process.
This is not an HR generalist or primarily administrative role. The successful candidate will spend substantial time recruiting directly.
